Which one are you again?

Posted under family

So I’ll admit that I am proud of K2 for her idea to have the bracelets on different wrists in order to easily identify which girl is which. And now that I see other people (like Mary-Mia) copy the idea, I wish we had patented it (hey, this is the US of A - you can patent any silly idea you want!)

Still, it turns out this isn’t perfect. S2 had on and off problems with a really bad nasty diaper rash ever since we returned from Germany six weeks ago. It would go away if treated with the right anti-fungal ointment, but it returned twice already. So when during bath time last night one of the girls screamed when being put into the water and a quick look showed a really bad rash on her bottom both of us immediately said “oh, poor S2″. And I put ointment and diapers on her, K2 finished bathing the other one and we continued our bed time routine.

This morning when baby number two woke up (after a reasonably good night - they woke up a few times between 11pm and midnight, but then slept through till 5:45am and 5:55am) and I took her downstairs she looked at her sister and said “H2″. And I told her “nein, Du bist H2, das ist S2!” (no, you are H2, that’s S2) - which of course made me check her wrist (it’s a reflex) and realize that I was holding S2 and that she was right. And that I just had gotten her out of H2’s crib and that therefore H2 was the one with the rash and we had been calling them by the wrong name for the past ten hours and had them sleep in the wrong bed…

Boy did I feel stupid… but we were so concerned about the poor baby with the rash and so certain that it was S2 again that we didn’t pay attention to the bracelets… oops.

What you can learn about this? They are really identical twins!

Our "twins" don't even look alike and I made the same mistake you made recently when we took them to a photo shoot and I kept telling my husband to hold Maddy higher since her face wasn't in the picture. I was holding Gwen and I could see in the monitor that Gwen face was above everyone elses so I kept trying to lower her while telling Andrew that Maddy needed to be lifted up. The pictures were horrible and it was only as we were leaving that I realized that *I* was holding Maddy!
