Authentic German Christmas Stollen

Posted by D under family

ChriststollenAs I mentioned before, for me Christstollen is a part of German Christmas. So K2 decided she wanted to bake some for me – she loves to do authentic home cooking instead of buying things in a store.

The first attempt last weekend was good – but not authentic. A little too much of “fruit cake” crept into the recipe. And then on Monday night she did a second attempt – with me out of town. She even went so far to email me a picture…

And the result (seen on the right) is simply perfect. Delicious, authentic, wonderful.

I love my wife.

Mmm, stollen! One of my favorite Christmas traditions, too. And yes, home-made is the only way to go with something like this. We use the Sunset Bread Book recipe (and it tastes just right to me, which suggests that perhaps my Mom used that one also :-)

I know that pulling one of these off is pretty labor intensive and requires technique… kudos to k2!!! Enjoy!! This a great tradition to keep your heritage active with your family!
