Bad nights

Posted by D under family

Things were going well in early January and I posted about them. So now I guess I need to update the story…

The girls still go to bed very well. We have a routine, but it’s ok to deviate. Others can put them to bed. As long as a few key things are done (they want to drink water right before going to sleep – it’s crazy, I know, but hey, they are dry in the morning… also, S2 insists every evening on “big open!” – which means she wants the door to the room to stay wide open…), things are really easy.

But sleeping through the night is what still doesn’t happen. Whether they are screaming (especially S2, lately) and you actually need to get them to wake up in order for them to settle down, or whether they roll off their mattresses and whine, or whether it’s just a general unrest… they simply still don’t sleep.

I’m sure many of you will think “oh, you are doing this wrong” and I’m sure we are. But trust me, we’ve tried a lot of things. I guess they’ll sleep through the night by middle-school, right?

BTDT. I do not think “you are doing this wrong”, by any means! But it will come, maybe later rather than sooner, but it will come. The dotter now sleeps reliably through the night, which is blissful.

Man, I hope they sleep a little here and there…we still have periodic sleep issues. I think if your kids are sleep issue kids they are just that way…crap sleepers!

We still have sleep issues with Ruby after almost 16 months home. She ALWAYS wakes up in the night….anywhere from just a whine or two to all out screaming and having to get up for a while. I spoke with other parents of children from Ruby’s orphanage and they were having similar issues. So in her case, maybe it has to do with bad sleeping habits from orphanage days (where I seriously doubt it is ever quiet long enough for a good sleep)…who knows? You two know your girls better than anyone so, I can’t see how you are doing anything wrong.

I don’t think there is anything wrong. It sounds liek night terrors and sometimes you do need to wake them!

Don’t worry. Soleil now sleeps 5-6 nights a week and Luna about 4-6 nights a week. We get some sleep now!

I have 4 children. The running joke in our family is that child #3 slept through the night well before child #1 or #2.LOL I don’t know what I did differently, but from my perspective it’s all the same. Anyway, it really got funny when child #3 and #4 slept through the night before #1 or #2. And at this point, child #1 was 12!!!LOL Now, as teenagers(all of them but #4), they still have sleep issues and #4 just keeps on a sleeping!LOL
